Due to Pope Francis’s passing, all of the football games that were supposed to take place in Italy on Monday have been cancelled.
Earlier in the day, the Vatican acknowledged the death of the 88-year-old.
All senior men’s and Under-20 top-flight matches have also been cancelled out of respect for the Pope, also known as the Bishop of Rome.
In a statement, Italy’s top division, Serie A, said, “The matches scheduled for today of the Serie A Enilive and Primavera 1 Championships are postponed to a date to be determined following the passing of the Holy Father.”
Four Serie A games were scheduled for Easter Monday, with Torino vs. Udinese commencing at 11.30 a.m. BST.
Cagliari was then supposed to play Fiorentina at 2 p.m., followed by Genoa vs. Lazio at 5 p.m. and Parma vs. Juventus at 7.45 p.m.
Roma U20s vs. Udinese U20s (11am), Monza U20s vs. Sassuolo U20s, and Sampdoria U20s vs. Torino U20s were the three Primavera 1 matches that were postponed.
