As part of its nationwide welfare plan, the Nigeria Police Force has paid out a total of N22,978,602,488.25 billion to 8,311 families of deceased policemen who passed away between 2018 and 2024.
In a statement on behalf of Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that 1,235 households received N2,855,181,796.55 in the most recent payout, which occurred on May 23, 2025.
According to the statement, insurance policies for the years 2018–2019, 2021–2022, 2022–2023, and 2023–2024 were covered by the payout.
Since no amount of money can ever fully replace a lost life, the IGP said that the Force is steadfastly dedicated to the welfare of police personnel and would always remember the legacy of the slain officers.
“This effort is important in resolving long-standing death benefit claim arrears,” he said.
“The Nigeria Police Force is built on the pillars of service, integrity, and sacrifice.”
Egbetokun added, “The Nigeria Police Force is still dedicated to establishing responsive welfare in order to ensure that no Next-of-Kin is left in the dark in the future.”
